N.A.S (Network Attached Storage)

Wilmington, NC Data Backup

N.A.S offers Business Owners and End Users a Storage Solution that is Moderately Priced with Raid Capabilities that support Redundancy and Parity Calculation dependent upon how much you spend of course. With the recent advancements made in the computer hardware technology and general availability of Quad Core Processors to mainstream computer users the only Advantage I personally see in running a N.A.S File Server is that you do not have to have a Host Machine running at all times to accommodate File Access and Storage e.g. a separate Computer in short you save a little on power consumption that’s about it. However for Business owners and End Users that run a business out of their home there is definitely a distinct advantage to implementing a N.A.S Storage Solution into your work environment.

What is N.A.S (Network Attached Storage)?

Network-attached storage (NAS) is hard disk storage that is set up with its own network address rather than being attached to the department computer that is serving applications to a network's workstation users. By removing storage access and its management from the department server, both application programming and files can be served faster because they are not competing for the same processor resources. The network-attached storage device is attached to a local area network (typically, an Ethernet network) and assigned an IP address. File requests are mapped by the main server to the NAS file server. Network-attached storage consists of hard disk storage, including multi-disk RAID systems, and software for configuring and mapping file locations to the network-attached device. Network-attached storage can be a step toward and included as part of a more sophisticated storage system known as a storage area network (SAN).

As a Business owner that takes Data Backup & Data Integrity very Seriously & guarantees his work I am not completely sold on the worth and merit of N.A.S Storage Solutions unless you spend allot of money and get a N.A.S Storage System with Robust Raid 6 Capabilities with Fault Tolerance & Dual Parity Calculation. My personal Experiences with setting up and Installing N.A.S File Servers is that most are very cheaply Made and are prone to Failure.
